This out-of-the-ordinary tour will take you from Buenos Aires, Argentina through Bolivia to Lima, Peru in a 21-day, once-in-a-lifetime adventure!

We will take travelers from the iconic city of Buenos Aires to Tucuman, from where we visit the famous wine region of Cafayate. You travel on the iconic “Tren a las Nubes” and continue the journey through the incredible landscape of the Uyuni Salt Flats to La Paz in Bolivia. We then continue into Peru to Lake Titicaca and the wonder of the world known as Machu Picchu and beyond.

This journey brings you to many of the region’s must-see sites, but you’ll also explore some tourist destinations that are frequently omitted from most other mainstream tours, including Cafayate, the Quebrada de Humahuaca, Uyuni and Lake Titicaca, among others.

Day 1

Welcome to Buenos Aires. Our driver welcomes you at the Ezeiza International Airport and drives you to your hotel downtown. For the rest of the day, you have free time.

Day 2

Discover the most important neighborhoods and landmarks in Buenos Aires during a half-day city tour. Admire the Obelisk, the symbol of Buenos Aires, and the many open squares of colonial Spanish descent. The visit to La Boca neighborhood and a walk on the “Caminito Street” are other highlights of the tour. In the evening, we celebrate our welcome dinner at the Tango show of “El Querandi”. You’ll then spend the night at your hotel in Buenos Aires. (B/D)

Day 3

You board the boat at Puerto Madero and head to Tigre. The cruise goes along the Costanera Navigation Canal, parallel to the Buenos Aires shoreline, passing the River Plate Stadium and the University of Buenos Aires. Then, we cruise through the canals of the delta, one of the largest in the world. We have lunch before heading to the Tigre train station, where we will take a train back to the city of Buenos Aires. You spend the night at your Hotel in Buenos Aires. (B/L)

Day 4

Transfer to the airport in Buenos Aires and flight to Tucuman in North Western, Argentina. After a short panoramic city tour in Tucuman we continue our journey through the Calaqui Valley to Colalao del Valle before we reach Cafayate which famous for its wines. Near Cafayate, we check into our Hotel where we stay overnight. Before dinner, we do a wine tasting. (B/L/D)

Day 5

We leave Cafayate in the morning following the Rio Las Conchas towards Salta. We check into our hotel in Salta. We have lunch at our arrival in Salta. In the afternoon, we will visit the main attractions of the city of Salta. We visit the Plaza 9 de Julio, the Cathedral, the Cabildo, the Casa de Uriburu, the Convent of San Francisco, the Convent and the Cerro San Bernardo, the monument to Guemes and February 20, the Quebrada de San Lorenzo and the handicraft market. You have a day at leisure in Salta. (B)

Day 7

Departure with our vehicle from Salta to the small village of Alfarcito. Then the journey continues through the Quebrada de las Cuevas to San Antonio de Cobres. In San Antonio de Cobres, we embark on the Train to the Clouds and travel to the Polvorilla Viaduct. The journey takes an hour to the viaduct, at 4,200 meters (13’780 ft) above sea level. The train stops for 30 minutes at the viaduct that you have time to take pictures and do some souvenir shopping. We have lunch in San Antonio de Cobres. The last stop will be held in Santa Rosa de Tastil before we reach Salta in the evening. (B/L/D)

Day 8

North of Salta lies the Quebrada de Humahuaca, an UNESCO listed valley. The valley is characterized by steep rock faces that change colors constantly depending the hour of the day and from where you look at them. Traders already used the important trade route through the gorge 10,000 years ago. Authentic dusty indigenous villages are spread along the route north. We stay overnight at the Hotel Huacalera. Day 9

Early morning, we continue the route no 9 to the north to reach the Bolivian border before midday. If time permits, we do a short tour of Villazon before we board the “Wara Wara Express” to Uyuni. The train reaches Uyuni early morning. A local guide welcomes us at the railway station and brings us to our hotel at the shore of the salt flat in Colchani, where we spend the rest of the night. Day 10

We visit the train cemetery in Uyuni, where we explore various oxidized steam engines and wagons on this spectacular site surrounded by amazingly unique scenery. In Colchani, we visit an artisanal salt processing plant and witness traditional salt extraction methods. At the Incahuasi Island (known as Fisher Island) in the middle of the world’s largest salt flat, you see amazing giant cactus. Lunch will be served in the middle of the salt flat. Overnight you’ll stay at a Hotel at the shores of the salt flat. (B/L/D)

Day 11

In the morning, we drive to a place where you can watch salt excavation. We visit a viewpoint above Coquesa Village from where you have fantastic views over the salt flat. Lunch is a Picnic on the central square in Coquesa. We drive over the salt flat to the Uyuni Airport, then take the evening flight to La Paz. In La Paz we stay at the Hotel Europa. (B/L/D)

Day 12

We do a tour in this fascinating city. Discover the indigenous Cosmo-vision and their mystical rituals at the Witches Market. The San Francisco Church, the historical district around the main square and the “Plaza Murillo” with the Legislative and the Government Palace are other sights of interest that we visit. Enjoy breathtaking views of La Paz from the Killi Killi viewpoint. We’ll return to the hotel in the afternoon. (B/L)

Day 14

From La Paz, we travel to Copacabana, a small town on the Bolivian side of the Lake Titicaca. From Copacabana, we cruise to the Sun Island where we have an Aptapi, a typical lunch. In the afternoon, we visit the ruins of the Pilkokaina Inca temple before we return to Copacabana. We stay at the Hotel Rosario del Lago. (B/D)

Day 15

From Copacabana, we reach the Peruvian Border after a short drive. From the border to Puno is it another 3-hour drive. At our arrival in Puno we have lunch. The rest of the day you have free time. We stay overnight at the Hotel Jose Antonio in the outskirts of Puno. (B/L)

Day 16

Early morning, we head to the Puno Railway station and board the “Perurail Titicaca Train” that brings us to Cusco. This fascinating journey goes through a scenic high Andean countryside. The train travels the 281 km (175 Mi) to Cusco in about 10 hours. In La Raya, the train reaches its highest point at 4.321 meters (15177 ft.) above sea level. The downhill train ride to Cusco goes through endless pastures and calls at remote villages, reaching Cusco in the evening. The driver awaits us at the railway station and brings us to the Hotel José Antonio in Cusco where we stay overnight. (B/L/D)

Day 17

City tour in the morning. One of the highlights is the Santo Domingo Convent, which is built over an ancient Inca Palace. Outside of Cusco, we visit the Inca military fortress Sacsayhuaman. Later, we have a look at the Inca ruins of Qenko, Puca-Pucara and Tambomachay. Overnight we stay in Cusco. (B/L)

Day 18

“Awana Kancha” is your first stop on your way to the Sacred Valley of the Incas. Observe the typical Andean animals “Guanacos“, “Llamas” “Alpacas” and “Vicuñas”. At the colorful market in Pisac, you can buy souvenirs for friends and family at home. You have lunch at a local restaurant. Characterized by narrow streets and street canals, Ollantaytambo is the oldest continuously occupied settlement in the Americas. In the late afternoon, you board the Explorer Train and travel to Machu Picchu where we check-in to the Hotel Casa Andina. (B/L)

Day 19

With an expert guide we explore Machu Picchu, the Lost City of the Incas. Take your time to explore Machu Picchu at your own leisure after the guided tour. You eat lunch at the Sanctuary Lodge. We then return to Ollantaytambo with the train in the afternoon and continue the journey by bus to Cusco. Overnight, we stay at the Hotel José Antonio in Cusco. (B/L)

Day 20

We transfer to the airport in Cusco to board the flight to Lima, then transfer to the Hotel Sonesta Posada del Inca in Lima’s Miraflores district. Enjoy an interesting city tour of Lima’s colonial past. Discover the Plaza San Martin and the Plaza Mayor with the Government Palace, the Archbishop’s Palace and the Cathedral. We drive through the modern district of San Isidro and Miraflores on our way back to the hotel. During the city tour we invite you to our farewell lunch at the Larco Museum. You’ll spend the night at the Hotel San Augustin Exclusive. (B/L)

Day 21

Morning at leisure. At the agreed time, our guide transfers you to the international airport in time to board the flight back to your home country. (B)
