“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do.”
Whether you’re a rail enthusiast or a traveler who wishes to see more than the usual travel agency would offer, you’ve come to the right place. With us, you will learn about the railway history, see what the life looks like in the faraway regions, and enjoy the adventure of traveling by train in South America.
My name is Peter Lauffer, and I am a Tour Leader, a Rail Enthusiast, and a Tour Organizer. I am a Swiss resident who has been living in Quito in Ecuador for almost 15 years, and I love organizing unusual travel experiences both for the rail enthusiasts and the adventurous travelers alike. With Rail South America, the journey is more important than the destination. While we do visit famous tourist destinations on some trips, the attraction is in the journey itself, as well as in the remote regions most travelers have never seen.
At the mention of an adventure, many think about backpacker trips. However, while we do spend some nights in simple accommodations, I prefer it comfortable whenever possible. The full comfort cannot always be found in the remote areas that we visit, but we won’t be sleeping on the ground either, and most of the time, we’ll be staying in comfortable hotels.
Rail South America offers you what other Tour Operators don’t: train travels in South America, and tours which would be next to impossible to organize from abroad. With us, you will enjoy a relaxed journey, you will have a lot of time to explore and discover the destination at your own pace, and your fellow group members will be people similar to you, relaxed, curious, interested in train travel, railway history, and seeing the remote sites. You will be traveling in a good company, and with an experienced Tour Operator who speaks English, Spanish, German and French, and who is just as passionate about discovering the world by train as you are.
