Works for Phase III of the enlargement of the Jorge Chávez International Airport will begin next December, according to Addendum No. 7 signed by the Minister of Transport and Communications. The Airport authorities will complete the new runway in 4 years and then in 2022 the construction of the new terminal; In total, it would take five years to carry out the project.
The planned expansion of the airport will almost double the number of airlines currently serving, from 35 to 70 carriers which, in turn, would increase passenger capacity from the current 18 million to probably not less than 30 million by 2030.
Additionally, the airport will also have a new control tower, a hotel with a convention center and more logistics/storage areas as well. The planned investment is $ 1.5 billion.
