10 Reasons to Visit Patagonia

10 Reasons to Visit Patagonia

Patagonia is one of the most beautiful areas in the world. The area, which covers more than 1,000,000 km², is a paradise for outdoor enthusiasts. It is secluded, breathtakingly beautiful, offers bizarre landscapes and is a must-see for anyone who enjoys outdoor travel. Do you want to go to Patagonia? We give you 10 reasons why he should go NOW.

# 1 You can do lots of walking there

If you like walking, there is really only one place on this globe where you must have been; Patagonia. There are few places in the world where you will find so many beautiful and well-maintained walking routes. The view along the way is truly breathtaking. Do not be afraid that you have to go off-the-beaten-track. Everyone can walk in Patagonia. Young and old, trained or inexperienced.

Pro tip: The only beautiful walking route that comes close is Milford Track in New Zealand.

# 2 Leave the beaten track and check the Carretera Austral

Those who have ever been to Patagonia will no doubt agree with us. This is perhaps the most beautiful highway in the world. The entire route is about 1,240 kilometers, just too far for a three-week vacation. The route runs from Puerto Montt, a port city in the lake district of Chile, to Villa O’Higgins in southern Chile, near the border with Argentina. If you drive here by car (or bicycle) you will find yourself in an (unspoiled) paradise!

# 3 Nature is beautiful

Of course a buyer, but we would still like to point this out to you. You have beautiful nature everywhere. Whether you visit the rice fields around Sapa in Vietnam, the jungle of Costa Rica, the beaches of Curacao or the outback in Australia … Yet there is one region that stands out; Patagonia. Nature with the snowy peaks, giant plains, glaciers, volcanoes and impressive forests is unique on this planet.

# 4 You can view glaciers there

Always wanted to see a glacier? Then you should definitely visit Patagonia. You will find a large number of glaciers here that you can visit. The best-known glacier is, of course, the Perito Moreno, but there are more. The best place to admire this glacier is from the beautiful town of El Calafate.

# 5 You can climb huge mountains there

Climbing mountains is not for everyone. Certainly not in Patagonia as you will find some spicy mountains here. If you want to climb mountains, Patagonia is a suitable area. The most famous mountain here is Fitz Roy. This mountain is a symbol of the impressive but powerful nature in this region.

# 6 Always wanted to visit Torres del Paine? This is your chance!

Torres del Paine is definitely a must-visit spot for the avid Instagrammer. If you search for Torres des Paine in the internet, you can find lots of amazing photos. Many travelers consider it as perhaps one of the most beautiful nature reserves in the world. The steep mountain peaks, bright blue, and bright green lakes and breathtaking glaciers. Photos and words fall short to describe this beautiful area. It is in Patagonia, so if you are in the area make sure to check it out!

# 7 It’s like camping in France … just more beautiful

Camping in a beautiful nature reserve is the wish of every camping enthusiast, right? If you want something different than camping in the Dordogne in France, go to Patagonia. You can set up your tent here in the most breathtaking places to enjoy the impressive nature and tranquility around you.

# 8 You can really go off-the-beaten-track here

If you want to escape the hustle and bustle of tourism in Chile or Argentina, there is really only one place to go. Patagonia is so huge that you can wander around for days here without meeting anyone. Various multi-day treks are organized where you really walk through no man’s land. You can also do it alone, but for that, you have to be an experienced walker.

# 9 You can go to Mount Fuji

Of course, you can’t really go to Mount Fuji since that volcano is in Japan, but you can climb a volcano that looks suspiciously like it. The shape of the Villarrica in Chile (see photo below) is very similar to the famous (and holy) mountain in Japan and you can also climb this volcano. It is not for travelers without condition, but fortunately, you can also just view the volcano from a distance.

# 10 You can visit Patagonia from Chile or Argentina

Patagonia is located in both Chile and Argentina so if you are in one of those two countries you can make the trip to Patagonia. Which side you want to visit depends on the things you want to see or do. If you want to visit the villages of El Chalten or El Calafate you have to be in Argentina. Do you want to drive the Carretera Austral? Then you have to be in Chile.
