    You travel on Peru’s least known, but most spectacular train from Lima to Huancayo. During the 14-hours journey, the train travels 346 km (214 mi), crosses 58 bridges and traverses 69 tunnels on its way to Huancayo. The train has to do 6 zigzags to reach the second highest train station in the world at an altitude of 4781 m.a.s.l. (15’686 ft). The train journey is extremely scenic and breath-taking; there is no other train journey like this on earth.

    The train departs from Lima at 150 m (492 ft) a.s.l. and climbs in about 8 hours to an altitude of 4781 m (15’686 ft) a.s.l. to arrive in Huancayo about 5 hours later at 3261 m (10’699 ft) a.s.l. The train passes over 58 bridges, goes through 69 tunnels and does six zigzags on its way to Huancayo. There is no other train in the world that travels such a short distance while overcoming such a large altitude difference. It is a unique and very scenic experience to travel on this train.  (B/L)

    The train journey back to Lima. This time, you travel during daylight the part where it was at dark on Day 1. The downward journey is as spectacular as the upward trip. The train reaches the Desamparados railway station in Lima in the evening. (B/L)
